Wood and wood finishes

Lacquered or coloured wood

Wipe with a clean damp cloth and mild cleaner according to its label. Difficult marks may need 1–2 minutes before rinsing and drying. Dry extension leaves completely before storage. Do not wet-clean damaged lacquer: water penetration can warp wood. Avoid abrasives, steel wool, polish, hot objects, prolonged object placement and sun. Consult the source’s stain-specific solvent table before using those treatments.

Original manufacturer guidance
Oiled wood

Treat twice when newly purchased, then 3–4 times yearly. Wash with soapy water about 12 hours beforehand and dry; apply specialist oil along the grain using the specified pad and lint-free cloth. After 15–20 minutes remove surplus, dry overnight and repeat 2–4 times for best results. Use carefully after about 24 hours; full hardening takes seven days. Never pour oil directly or use steel wool/ammonia; abrade along the grain. Oily cloths/pads are highly flammable: keep from flames, rinse cold or contain in sealed metal/glass. Consult a professional before burn repairs; the source details individual sanding treatments.

Original manufacturer guidance
Soap Treated Solid Wood

Wipe with a well-wrung lukewarm cloth and dry. Renew the soap treatment regularly with a suitable product; prevent contact with other materials. Changing treatment requires fully sanding off the previous layer and using recommended protection. Remove spills quickly. Avoid steel wool, abrasives, polish, hot items, long-standing objects, sunlight and pressure from clothing rivets.

Original manufacturer guidance
Solid Maple

For the expansion ring, dust along the grain and use 2–3 tablespoons soap flakes per litre of water, brushing gently and drying. Occasionally sand along the grain with grit 180 or 200; do not sand frequently. Clean all ring plates together to prevent uneven colour. Avoid hot objects, long-standing items and sunlight.

Original manufacturer guidance
Untreated Solid Wood

Natural silver-grey weathering is expected. The manufacturer describes grit 120–150 sanding once or twice yearly; suitable oil can retain colour. Clean with wood cleaner and soft bristles, rinse and dry 24 hours. This section permits mild bleach, water and a soft cloth for teak/Western Red Cedar stains. Winter storage in an unheated room is preferred; do not drape wet laundry directly on wooden drying racks. A little denatured alcohol removes Douglas Pine resin; retighten table bolts periodically. Untreated wood absorbs grease and colour.

Original manufacturer guidance
Untreated Veneer

Unfinished veneer absorbs grease and colour. Suitable soap or furniture oil can improve resistance but changes colour. If keeping it untreated, use an appropriate wood cleaner. Avoid abrasives, steel wool and polish.

Original manufacturer guidance
Painted MDF

Wipe regularly with a well-wrung lukewarm cloth and dry softly to prevent streaks. Use ordinary mild cleaner for stubborn dirt. Avoid abrasives, steel wool and polish.

Original manufacturer guidance

Leather, textiles and rugs

Leather

Vacuum regularly with soft bristles. Clean only as needed: dissolve 2–3 tablespoons soap flakes in one litre of boiled water, using only the foam uniformly with a soft cloth. Absorb excess moisture with dry soft cotton and dry before use. Avoid spot-only cleaning because colour may vary; stain-remover damage is excluded from warranty. Protect from sharp objects, dye transfer, sun and heat. Cardboard and thin foam reduce, but do not eliminate, stacking pressure marks.

Original manufacturer guidance
Textiles

Vacuum weekly at medium power with soft bristles. Blot wet marks with lint-free cloth/sponge wrung in warm detergent-free water; do not rub. Use suitable cleaning powder for persistent stains, testing out of sight and following its label; cleaner damage is excluded from warranty. Steam cleaning is limited to Alphabet Sofa Series, Favn cushions, Fred, glue-free Fri, Fri cushions/footstool, Let, Lissoni Sofa, Little Giraffe, Lune, Plenum, Poufs, Ro/Ro Sofa cushions, Series 3300 and VIA57. Avoid sharp objects, dye transfer, sun/heat; stacking separators only reduce pressure marks.

Original manufacturer guidance
Velvet

Vacuum along the nap, ideally weekly, with an upholstery attachment. For spots/pressure marks, dampen the whole area with a cloth and brush softly along the nap. Pressure marks are an inherent characteristic, not automatically a defect. The velvet steam-cleaning list contains Fred and VIA57 only. Avoid sharp objects, dye transfer, sun/heat; separators reduce rather than eliminate stacking marks.

Original manufacturer guidance
Canvas

Vacuum weekly at low/medium power with soft bristles. Blot wet stains using a lint-free cloth or sponge and warm detergent-free water; avoid rubbing. Use suitable cleaning powder for persistent stains after hidden-area testing, following its label. Avoid sharp objects, dye transfer, prolonged sun and heat.

Original manufacturer guidance
Rugs

Vacuum regularly along the pile even without visible dirt; rotate in high-traffic areas. Use a professional rug cleaner for heavy spills. Do not dry-clean, steam-clean or store damp. Direct sun gradually fades colour.

Original manufacturer guidance
Throws

Shake off dust regularly. Use professional dry cleaning or the low/no-water solvent method described by the manufacturer; heavy spills need a specialist. Do not machine-wash or steam-clean.

Original manufacturer guidance

Cane, cords and woven materials

French Cane

Dry or air-conditioned environments can embrittle cane: moisten periodically with a clean damp cloth or mist. Spread weight evenly rather than concentrating feet/knees. Clean with soft cloth, warm water and mild cleaner, then dry. Natural colour variation is excluded from warranty.

Original manufacturer guidance
Wicker

Low humidity can dry and embrittle wicker; such drying is excluded from warranty. Clean monthly with 2–3 tablespoons soap flakes per litre hot water, sprayed onto both sides to penetrate. Remove excess with a clean damp cloth. Natural colour differences are excluded from warranty.

Original manufacturer guidance
Paper cord

Usually needs little maintenance but can take up colour from new jeans, wine, jam and juice. Blot spills immediately with a damp cloth rather than rubbing liquid into the paper. Avoid harsh cleaners.

Original manufacturer guidance
Flag Halyard

Vacuum regularly at low/medium power. Blot spills and stains promptly with a damp cloth; rubbing can damage the fibres.

Original manufacturer guidance

Metals and coatings

Aluminium

Dust softly and dry. Remove marks with a well-wrung mild-detergent cloth and dry. An eraser or petroleum benzine is specified for stubborn local stains, keeping it off unaffected areas. Avoid abrasives.

Original manufacturer guidance
Anodized aluminium

Dust softly; use lukewarm water and dish detergent if needed, removing all residue. Do not dishwash or use sharp tools, abrasives, steel wool or rough cleaning surfaces that damage anodising.

Original manufacturer guidance
Brass plated stainless steel

Dust with a soft dry cloth; use lukewarm water and dish detergent as needed. Do not dishwash, polish, or use sharp tools, abrasives or steel wool.

Original manufacturer guidance
Lacquered solid brass

Dust softly; clean with lukewarm water and dish detergent if needed. Do not dishwash or polish: polishing removes lacquer. Avoid sharp tools and abrasives for water deposits.

Original manufacturer guidance
Untreated brass

Patina and colour differences are natural. Clean/polish only with brass-specific product and applicator, then a dry soft cloth. Water speeds oxidation; keep the shade entirely dry. Avoid sharp tools and abrasives.

Original manufacturer guidance
Chrome

Dust softly; use a dry or well-wrung soapy cloth and dry afterwards because water can corrode. The source names rubbing alcohol for stubborn stains and Autosol for rust, while separately prohibiting solvents on chrome plating. This is not permission to use arbitrary solvents.

Original manufacturer guidance
Stainless steel

Wipe regularly with microfibre; clean with warm soapy water and dry along the grain. The source specifies benzine on a clean soft cloth for local marks. Avoid chlorine/acid cleaners that cause rust, steel wool, steel brushes and abrasives.

Original manufacturer guidance
Powder Coated Metal

Dust softly. Use a damp cloth, mild cleaner or two tablespoons soap flakes per litre lukewarm water. Difficult marks may need 1–2 minutes before rinsing/drying; remove spills promptly. Avoid abrasives, steel wool and polish. The source’s stain table includes highly flammable benzine: keep away from flames and ventilate; follow the matching entry.

Original manufacturer guidance
PVD coated metal

Wipe with soft clean cotton/microfibre. Use hot water and mild all-purpose cleaner for marks, rinse warm and dry. Avoid abrasives, steel wool, polish and strong acid/alkali cleaners such as vinegar or soap flakes that damage/coating-film the finish. Avoid hard knocks and repeated abrasion.

Original manufacturer guidance
Silver plated stainless steel

Dust softly; suitable silver polish and applicator can restore colour, followed by rinsing and soft wiping. Clean with warm water. Avoid excessive polishing, sharp tools for wax/water deposits and steel wool or rough tools.

Original manufacturer guidance
Cast Iron

The fire bowl mainly needs ash removal. Before storage, wash with water, mild detergent and a brush, dry and grease with cooking oil or similar; the source names engine degreaser for leftover oil marks. Store dry indoors to limit rust. Rust/heat can mark timber terraces or grass; do not touch or move the hot bowl during or after a fire.

Original manufacturer guidance

Stone and concrete

Marble

Seal before use. Stone Wash supplied with PK marble offers partial protection: cover the whole top and edges evenly with lint-free cloth, allow absorption without fully drying, remove excess with a wrung cloth and repeat if needed. Blot spills immediately; acids can stain permanently. Use coasters/trivets. Red-wine treatments differ: scouring powder for rolled marble and chlorine for honed marble, followed by Stone Wash. Match the exact finish in the source rather than treating every stone this way.

Original manufacturer guidance
Granite

Use an impregnating sealer; Stone Wash provides only partial stain resistance. Apply evenly over top/edges, allow absorption without full drying and remove excess with a wrung lint-free cloth. Blot spills early; acid marks may remain. Use coasters/trivets. Natural-soap cleaning can gradually give honed granite a silky matt appearance.

Original manufacturer guidance
Slate

Maintain with Stone Wash over the whole top/edges, letting it penetrate without fully drying and removing excess with a wrung lint-free cloth. For lustre the source specifies one part linseed oil to three parts white spirit, waiting 5–10 minutes before dry wiping. Blot spills, use coasters/trivets; acid stains may remain.

Original manufacturer guidance
Limestone

Use water and dry wiping; suitable natural-stone cleaner or finish may refresh/protect it. Blot spills immediately; never use acidic or abrasive cleaners. Grease, wine, berries, jam or lemon may create irreversible stains. Use a cutting board and clean afterwards. Unheated winter storage is advisable, though year-round outdoor use is possible.

Original manufacturer guidance
Concrete

Clean when needed with soapy water and a stiff brush. Do not pressure-wash: it damages the surface and increases dirt absorption. Use unheated garage/cellar storage in winter to reduce cracking.

Original manufacturer guidance

Glass, plastics and table surfaces

Glass

Dust softly; use lukewarm water and dish detergent as needed. Remove spills promptly, rinse and dry. Avoid abrasives/sharp tools. The source has stain-specific benzine and methylated-spirit treatments; benzine is highly flammable, requiring flame-free ventilation, rinsing and drying.

Original manufacturer guidance
Printed or reflective glass

Use warm water and a soft cloth or solvent-free glass cleaner. Spray cleaner onto the cloth, not directly onto the mirror. Avoid abrasives and sharp tools.

Original manufacturer guidance
Ceramic

Dust softly and wipe stains with a cloth wrung in soapy water. This ceramic section permits dishwashing; avoid abrasives and sharp tools and match the actual product.

Original manufacturer guidance
Acrylic

Dry-dust. Use a well-wrung lukewarm cloth for dirt, adding dish soap for persistent marks. Wipe clean and dry thoroughly to prevent streaks.

Original manufacturer guidance
Plastic

Dust softly. Wipe with a wrung soapy cloth, follow with a clean damp cloth and dry. If needed, use mild all-purpose cleaner or dishwashing-liquid solution.

Original manufacturer guidance
Lacquer coated plastic

Use a clean damp cloth and mild cleaner per label; deeper cleaning may need 1–2 minutes before rinsing/drying. The source cautions against wet-cleaning damaged lacquer. Avoid abrasives, steel wool and polish; remove spills quickly. Check its stain-specific solvent table; benzine needs flame-free ventilation, rinsing and drying.

Original manufacturer guidance
Polyester Composite

Wipe dry/damp and remove surplus moisture. Use diluted all-purpose cleaner for large marks; concentrated cleaner may treat stubborn stains, followed by washing off. The solid-moulded top permits light polishing of otherwise persistent scratches/spots. It is stain-sensitive and needs care.

Original manufacturer guidance
Laminate

Daily: well-wrung warm cloth, mild cleaner or Fritz Hansen Laminate Cleaner. Use damp melamine weekly. Deep cleaning: white melamine and acid-free kitchen cleaner over the entire top, rinsed with damp microfibre; dry melamine may precede this for ingrained dirt. FENIX NTM only: slightly damp paper towel on a scratch, iron circularly for 8–10 seconds and rinse. Avoid steel wool, sandpaper, strong acids/alkalis, wax/polish; use coasters/trivets. Follow the source stain table, preserving benzine’s flammability, flame-free ventilation and rinsing requirements.

Original manufacturer guidance
Linoleum

Use linoleum polish such as Monel after purchase and regularly. Daily/deeper cleaning uses a wrung cloth with hot water and all-purpose cleaner, soap flakes or 10% vinegar, followed by rinsing/drying. Dry extension leaves before storage. Avoid abrasives, polish, alkaline cleaners, hot items/candles; use trivets. Alcoholic liquids stain; prolonged water/chemical contact degrades it. Some stains remain. The source solvent table concerns superficial marks and retains benzine’s flammability, ventilation and rinse requirements.

Original manufacturer guidance

Outdoor textiles and parasols

Outdoor Textile

Use a firmly wrung cloth. Persistent stains on removable upholstery may be machine-washed at 30°C; non-removable fabric is cloth-cleaned only. UK textiles are not suitable for machine washing. Avoid sharp objects.

Original manufacturer guidance
Sling

Wipe with a firmly wrung cloth; treat marks with soapy water and finish dry. Protect from sharp objects.

Original manufacturer guidance
Sun Texture

Use outdoor-suitable protective spray. Clean marks with a wrung all-purpose-cleaner cloth and dry. Winter storage uses a cover that does not trap moisture in an unheated room. Avoid sharp objects.

Original manufacturer guidance
Parasol Textile

Use a brush or damp cloth for persistent dirt. Dry completely before winter storage in an unheated room to prevent marks. Avoid sharp objects.

Original manufacturer guidance
Teflon Treated Parasol Textile

Remove dirt using a brush or damp cloth. Washing is not recommended because it damages the treatment and may shrink the fabric; it is not waterproof. Dry fully before unheated winter storage.

Original manufacturer guidance

Lighting and electrical cords

Note on all lamps

Damaged external flexible cable/cord must be replaced only by the manufacturer, service agent or equivalently qualified person to avoid hazards. This does not authorise user replacement.

Original manufacturer guidance
Other materials lighting

Dust softly and dry. Remove marks with a soft cloth and mild cleaner, then wipe gently dry. Avoid abrasives and sharp tools. Do not use copper-cleaning products on copper lamp surfaces; they can damage the finish.
